Black Bean Burger

This black bean burger recipe will knock the socks off of any of your vegetarian and meat eating friends!! Give it a try and let us know what you think.

Prep Time: 15-20 minutes

Cook Time: 8 minutes


1/2 cup uncooked black beans

4 cups water

1/4 cup panko bread crumbs

1/2 teaspoon ground cumin

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 and 1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper

1/4 teaspoon paprika

2 tablespoons olive oil


Soak the black beans in water for a minimum of 4 hours or overnight. Drain the water.

Place the soaked black beans and the 4 cups of water, along with 1 teaspoon of salt, into a pressure cooker on Medium-High heat for 10-12 minutes. Beans should be done when they are soft to the touch and slightly al dente.

Drain the excess water from the pressure cooker to a jar. This can be saved for use as a stock for a soup or stew.

Put the beans into a mixer and pulse into coarse bits. Do NOT over-mix the beans or they will be difficult to shape into patties. Empty the beans into a large bowl and combine with bread crumbs, cumin, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and paprika. Mix thoroughly. Bean mixture should now have a doughy consistency. Shape the mixture into patties.

Bring a cast iron skillet to medium-high heat. Coat with the olive oil. Place patties onto skillet and cook for 3-4 minutes per side until browned.

Serve using your favorite condiments and toppings! Enjoy!
